A book to savour
By mimi

I have LOTS of books including cookery, travel, art, memoir. This one combines all of these - it can only be said - exquisitely! I went to Poland for a few days last year and loved it. The book is a feast for the eyes, and a treat for any soul that appreciates beauty; it is a joy. Can't wait for the next one in the series. In the meantime, I shall try out some of the mouthwatering recipes.

Beautiful book
By Mrs Caroline Horsley

I bought this book for a Polish friend but before giving it to her of course I read it (& showed it to other friends!) it is the most beautiful book, full of memories and emotions. The recipes are delicious, photographed so well you can almost taste the food. I have never been to Poland so it is also a travel guide, showing an unknown land. Some books just have to be 'owned' - I shall shortly be ordering my own copy! Congratulations to Beata.http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/0956699200/ref=s9_simh_gw_p14_d2_i1?pf_rd_m=A3P5ROKL5A1OLE&pf_rd_s=center-2&pf_rd_r=1E5Q7JBCVD1RNZ1E0ANJ&pf_rd_t=101&pf_rd_p=467128533&pf_rd_i=468294

Polish soul
by MG243

Beautifully illustrated with photographs by the author's husband, we are taken on a voyage of memory, literature and hearty cuisine. The past looms large in the book's pages, particularly WW2 and the displacement of millions sent from East to West by Stalin's vengeful redrawing of the European map. But this is not a tale of woe. Rose Petal Jam is a celebration of identity, achievement and - if this had not assuaged our appetite - food. In other respects, this book is also a declaration of love by a Polish émigré for her motherland. If you buy one book on Poland this year, make it this one.

The Best Yet

A wonderful introduction to the delicious dishes and the cultural background that gives rise to them. Beautifully produced, simply explained - a feast for the eyes and not only! Can be read from to cover to cover in one go without a single pause for a 'placek' or 'paczek'. More please!

Rose Petal Jam

This is a book to read slowly, to sink into beautiful photography, to use over and over again: the recipes are simple and healthy (usually) and there's plenty of opportunity to learn the odd word of Polish. I love this book and I'm looking forward to the next one from Tabula Books. Recommended! http://www.amazon.co.uk/Rose-Petal-Jam-Recipes-Stories/dp/0956699200/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1305594862&sr=8-1

Rose Petal Jam - what an amazing story and a beautiful interview. Thank you for introducing this story and book to me. I have ordered a copy and can't wait for it to be delivered.

The recipes are actually great, but what makes it unusually exciting, is the superb photography, and the brilliant anecdotes on her return to Poland, some of which actually mirror my own experiences, eg walking into a dark enchanted music shop in the market place in Krakow, (must be the same one!) and buying my baggage allowance worth of nostalgic CD's. Yep! can relate to that one.

An Artistic Gem

by Maureen

Rose Petal Jam is an artistic gem...an extraordinary collaboration by the husband and wife team! The concept of intertwining the story of their summer journey to discover the Poland of today with Beata's magical childhood memories of her homeland and the inspirational grandmother who raised her, along with treasured, traditional Polish recipes captivates the reader. Simon's breathtaking photos of those prepared dishes and the beauty of Poland elevate the book to an exceptional artistic level. It is a must for those who wish to celebrate this rich Polish heritage.

I loved it.

Simply Wonderful

This is such a beautifully written and evocative book blending history, travel and personal memoir with some of the most delicious recipes in Polish cuisine, and featuring some stunning photography. I originally bought it as a gift but, after flicking through it before wrapping it up, I have also bought myself a copy, I loved it so much! Can't wait for the promised Winter follow-up...

Stories from Poland

This is a big, beautiful book, lavishly illustrated and full of childhood reminiscences of a Polish childhood. The layout is good with short stories interspersed with recipes. Worth every penny, a book to keep and treasure, even for those with no Polish connections.
